Surrounded in controversy, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is a short prologue to the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Before launching, players were split on the high price and low duration of the title, resulting in Konami reducing the recommended retail price and in a lot of claims that Ground Zeroes was likely nothing more than a purchasable demo.
It’s worth prefacing this review with a note that the cost of the title will not factor into the review. Instead, readers will be expected to make their own judgement as to whether the game described here matches the value that they would be expected to pay for it, regardless of this reviewer’s opinion on the matter. Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is the 10th canon instalment of the popular, genre-defining franchise. Clouded with controversy amid speculations of game length, retail pricing, and the direction of this particular game in general, Ground Zeroes rises above it all and delivers another fresh perspective on the stealth-action genre granting the player a completely new way to control Big Boss’ actions more precisely. Almost every year sees a brand new videogame release in the Dragon Ball Z series. While typically focusing on the fighting aspect of both the manga and the show, the games often change after two or three sequels. However, after a disappointing release with Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi, it’s no surprise that the developer has attempted another relatively new approach. This time, the team fighting, arcade titles are seeing a console release on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. Continue reading
Over the years, I’ve continued to play the large collection of Dragon Ball Z games both because of the entertainment they bring, and that the games allow you to play as your favourite characters and re-live the series at your will. There has been a huge number of games over the years, some have been very weak some very good. The most recent release before Dragon Ball Z Budokai HD Collection, Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Tenkaichi was an annoying game, and I am pleased that Bandai decided to go back and look at what made their DBZ games great. Tomb Raider is latest title of the iconic series. Casting aside the legacy created and starting afresh, with the rebooted and re-imagined Lara Croft, Crystal Dynamics brings a new perspective to the famous and symbolic heroine. This title revives the series with a new Lara and bringing a new insight into how she becomes the well-established bad ass players will be familiar with from the first video game released in 1996. Unlike that of the predecessors’ title, this game brings to light, the journey Lara takes into becoming a legendary tomb raider. Continue reading
DmC: Devil May Cry is the latest entry and reboot of the Devil May Cry franchise, featuring a brand new cast and storyline. The title is so different compared to previous releases that it has spawned massive controversy, revealing the very worst in the games industry. Gaming outlets would insult fans and constantly revel in trying to show them up. Conversely, fans would focus on any minor gripe that they could to project DmC as a failure.
As a fan of Devil May Cry, myself, it’s hard not to be disappointed. The characters that I enjoyed have been replaced, the series has become darker and less crazy, and even the gameplay has been altered to fit Ninja Theory’s artistic designs. Regardless, DmC is a reboot, and such changes are to be expected. I defended the game from some of the sillier criticisms from the start, but does the game actually deserve the criticism it gets? Is it the failure that fans claim?

Having been a fan of Spider-Man for years, the kid inside of me is always excited when a new Spider-Man game hits the shelves. The Amazing Spider-Man is more than just a game though, it’s an extension of the movie which I also thoroughly enjoyed. Following up from the movie, this title is set in the aftermath of Dr. Connors’ discovery. Needless to say, there are spoilers for the movie.
