Pressed for Release (Issue 1): Up to 19th November

I figured I would introduce another new feature, because I’m keeping up well enough with the other features. Rather than regurgitate press releases and call that news, I figured it would make more sense to regurgitate the important press releases for the readers that cared and clump them together in one post, leaving more room for me to work on the more important stuff. Press releases just rarely offer more than what they initially deliver.

This feature also makes it easier for me to deliver the news while I work on my Honours degree. You can see the origin of the name from that, I’m sure.

Unsurprisingly, Call of Duty: Black Ops II is another best seller, estimated to have sold over five-hundred million dollars within the very first day of its launch. Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard, said, “Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded worldwide theatrical box office receipts for “Harry Potter” and “Star Wars,” the two most successful movie franchises of all time. “

Similarly, Halo 4 sold over two-hundred and twenty million dollars within the first day of its launch. Sadly, that doesn’t quite compare to Black Ops II.

Speaking of how many units have been sold, the PlayStation 3 has recently sold its seventy-millionth unit worldwide. For comparative purposes, the Xbox 360 sold seventy-million units in September, bringing both systems in pretty close. The Wii has sold ninety-six million units as of June. Additionally, the PlayStation Move has now sold fifteen million units, and the Kinect has sold eighteen million.

Music-inspired bullet-hell shooter Beat Hazard Ultra will be ported onto the Android platform. The title will sell for the discounted price £1.49/$2.50 during the undisclosed promotion window. It will require 20Mb free, and at least Android version 2.3.

Fists of the North Star: Ken’s Rage 2 is due to launch on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on February 1st, 2013 in Europe. TECMO KOEI Europe claim the title will include twenty characters, new abilities, extended story mode, and will also now feature online co-op and competitive modes.

SEGA released a reminder noting that Jet Set Radio HD will be released on the PlayStation Vita this week, with an iOS and Android release next week. PlayStation Plus subscribes in North America can expect a free copy of the title tomorrow (ed – today).

Strategy game HISTORY: Legends of  War, set during the second World War, will be released on the loosely defined “consoles” (PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) in February next year (2013). Presumably, they forgot that the Wii or Wii U are also consoles.

That’s it for this week’s (last week) “issue” of Pressed for Release. Tune in on Sunday for a summary of the news for the coming week starting Monday, 19th November. If you would like your press release covered, email the staff at
