City of Heroes Shut Offline

Paragon Studios Closes Down, City of Heroes MMO Offline

City of Heroes Shut Offline

Roughly eighty employees of Paragon Studios are now unemployed as a result of NCsoft shutting down the developer studio, bringing City of Heroes with it.

Paragon Studios were a massive-multiplayer online game developing company that supported the City of Heroes title. Founded in 2007, the studio has only been around for five years, relegated to supporting an already existing game. Gamasutra reports that “some eighty employees have been affected by the layoffs”.

City of Heroes launched in 2004 and has survived up until now, even changing to a free-to-play model in June of last year. Whilst it will still be playable, the videogame will be shut offline permanently by the end of the year. It was the first superhero MMO.

It’s a shame to see another company go, and it’s especially unfortunate for the employees who are now without a job.
