Developed by Ninja Theory as a reboot to the fantastic Devil May Cry third-person action series, DmC Devil May Cry received a lot of criticism for its radical changes to the franchise. Whilst still a similar type of game, DmC was developed using the Unreal Engine and featured a completely different Dante — the protagonist — than the previous titles. It also seemed far darker and serious than before. As a fan of Devil May Cry myself, I was sceptical. Admittedly, I approached the demo of the game at Eurogamer as such.
Platinum Game’s upcoming multiplayer, third-person brawler title, Anarchy Reigns, is finally getting released in the west. Players can finally expect the title to launch in the second week of January, on their respective region’s usual day of the week.
Announced last year, Anarchy Reigns was eventually released earlier this year during the Summer in Japan, and was intended to launch in the west shortly after. Unfortunately, even though the game’s localisation was finished and ready to ship, the title’s publisher, SEGA, decided to delay it instead. Presumably, SEGA wanted to launch Anarchy Reigns during a better period.
“SEGA are hugely proud of the work Platinum Games has put in to creating a video game with such a unique and engaging vision”, said Chief Operations Officer for SEGA Europe, Jurgen Post. “Gamers will soon be able to experience the full adrenaline rush that comes from competing in the explosive multiplayer matches of Anarchy Reigns.”
Announced on Friday was the brand new release date for the game. North American players can expect to be able to pick it up on January 8th, 2013 — for as low as $29.99. Europeans can expect the game come January 11th, 2013. Similarly, they can expect to pay the low cost of £19.99/€29.99.
“Focusing on online play with Anarchy Reigns presented a new challenge for us here at PlatinumGames,” said Atsushi Inaba, Executive Director and Producer at Platinum Games. “Very few games fall under its genre of a melee-based online multiplayer brawler, so I think we’ve been able to supply a new kind of excitement that you can’t find anywhere else. While some time has passed since its Japan release, I look forward to having gamers in North American and Europe enjoy the Anarchy!”

When you have to sit down and review a game that was released over a decade ago, how do you approach it? Compare the changes? Review how the title plays by today’s standards? Perhaps even write a review about the game based on the time period it came out? Whatever the case, these various approaches require you to play the game.
Back when I first established this weblog, I was sick of the mainstream gaming press. It’s no secret that I despise most outlets, and it’s the entire reason I made Gaming Advance. It’s not that I expect to do better, but it’s that I aspire to do better. I expect to be called out when I do wrong, and I expect to learn from it.
